Rope A Dope is a much celebrated short film by Laurent Briet. It was made as one part of the intriguing "Exquisite Corpse" director’s series at Little Minx which at the time of filming represented the director.

The film got widespread attention and critical acclaim. It screened on various film festivals around the world, including Tribeca, LA Film Festival, Sundance and the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival in France.

Briet, now represented by Serial Pictures in the US and Psycho @ Première Heure in Europe, has done several projects with Bix, both before and after the success of Rope A Dope and he was enthusiastic about the relationship he has with Bix.

Laurent Briet:
"Working with BIX on this project was really key for the film. There’s no dialogue so it’s an entirely visual and aural experience. Due to the nature of the shoot itself (low budget, guerilla style) we didn’t have the luxury of recording location sounds so when I had the edit locked down I really needed to create an entire soundscape to go with the film.

This is where Bix entered the picture and his work on this was simply amazing. He created an intricate, rich and complex world of sound from scratch. It was a collaborative project, I did some of the jump roping myself in his studio and we worked on it intensively over a very short period.

More than anything I was impressed with the creativity that Bix brought to the project. There are many things in the final product that I have to accredit directly to him, such as the way he edited and mixed Blackstrobe’s "Shining Star" into the film. His ear for tension and storytelling also really brought the work to a level that elevates the entire experience.

So I was very pleased with the experience to say the least"

Bix and Briet have continued to work together on projects and their last collaboration was a spot for Joop called "Thrill".
